ALFA ROMEO GIULIA AND STELVIO QUADRIFOGLIO MY2020.

The Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio models have been updated for MY20 with a wide range of design, technology, and safety upgrades. The new MY20 Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio are a showcase for Alfa Romeo excellence with their combination of sophisticated technical and performance solutions, in vehicles that embody Italian design

Quality and style;

Alfa Romeo’s Italian style expresses a simplicity that conceals the complexity of the creative design process. For MY20 the Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio have been updated to create an ergonomic, harmonious series of lines, instruments, volumes and spaces which envelope the driver.

Outside, the new Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio MY20 adds new LED rear light clusters with dark lenses and a new glossy black finish adorns the front trilobe and rear badges. Mopar has also designed an exclusive Quadrifoglio accessories line for MY20, featuring a carbon fibre front grille with “V” insert, mirror caps and rear spoiler. The Stelvio also features new 21-inch alloys wheels, seen for the first time on a Quadrifoglio.

Inside, the centre console has been adapted to offer greater tactile and visual impact, while also providing more storage space, a new leather trimmed steering wheel and gear stick are standard and customers can now choose to option red or green seat belts over the classic black version. New perforated upholstery will also be available on the Quadrifoglio models, fitted with electric leather and Alcantara sports seats as standard and available with optional carbon shell Sparco seats.

In the Alfa Romeo laboratories, new effects, new pigments and new application techniques are constantly being explored, to accentuate the sculptural effect of the Giulia and Stelvio’s lines. The Alfa Romeo MY20 Quadrifoglio models is available in a choice of eight colours including Competizione Red, Trofeo White and Misano Blue. Late in 2020 a range of classic colours, which recall and reinterpret the heritage of Alfa Romeo, will also become available. The Classic range harks back to a prestigious heritage and will comprise of three new colours: 6C Villa d’Este Red, GT Junior Ocra, and Montreal Green. The latter hue pays homage to one of the brand’s icons, the Alfa Romeo Montreal, launched 50 years ago.

Infotainment and Connected services;

With the new MY20 Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio the HMI has evolved into a system which is simple, user-friendly and intuitive. The 8.8-inch central display is now touchscreen and adopts an all-new layout with widgets which can be dragged and dropped to create a fully customisable homepage, in which each of the vehicle’s functions becomes an app. So just horizontal scrolling calls up the access screens for Alfa DNA, radio, media, smartphone, navigation, climate control, connected services and ADAS. The driver can choose between the updated rotary knob or the touchscreen to control the new infotainment system.

Exclusively available on the Quadrifoglio models, the new Performance Pages show the temperatures of the main mechanical components, torque delivery, turbo pressure and power used, as well as digital chronometers to measure acceleration and maximum speed, allowing the driver to view performance levels and vehicle status in real time. The new 7-inch TFT screen in the heart of the instrument cluster is also now standard across the whole Giulia and Stelvio range. The screen layout has been redesigned to offer more information in a more rational way, and to accommodate the autonomous driving technology parameters.

Alfa Connected Services now feature as standard on the Quadrifoglio models, to deliver advanced on-board connectivity and a set of services to boost safety and comfort. The full suite of Alfa Connected Services will be expanded to include the following functions in 2020. My Assistant enables the occupant to send a request for assistance to a call centre, with the vehicle’s position and identification code, by pressing the SOS button or via the mobile app. In the event of an accident, the call goes out automatically. In case of a vehicle breakdown, a call can be sent to the roadside assistance service with the vehicle’s coordinates by pressing the Assist button. The My Assistant package also includes a service report, which keeps customers updated on their vehicle’s health via monthly email reports.

My Remote enables remote control of several vehicle functions. Drivers can set speed and area limits as well as check the location of the vehicle and they will receive alerts, via a smartphone or smartwatch, Amazon Alexa or Google Home voice assistance systems, if the set parameters are breached. My Navigation comprises applications for remote search for destination and Points of Interest (POI) and real-time traffic, weather and speed camera alerts. The package also includes the Send & Go service, enabling the driver to send the destination to their navigation straight from their smartphone or the web portal.

Other services to join the suite include My Car, which enables owners to monitor their car’s health and parameters, My Wi-Fi, which allows an Internet connection to be shared between up to eight on-board devices, My Theft Assistance, which alerts the owner of any attempt to steal the car, and My Fleet Manager, intended for fleet management.

The thrill of the racetrack and an easier everyday life: Level 2 ADAS

With the MY20, the Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio introduce new Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), developed in conjunction with Bosch to offer level 2 autonomous driving. It leaves the pleasure of sitting behind the wheel intact, as it only intervenes to ensure total safety and to increase driver comfort in heavy traffic or on longer trips.

Level 2 autonomy, the highest level of autonomous driving currently permitted, is achieved by definition when the driver gives the car control of the accelerator, brakes and steering under certain conditions. The driver however must remain in control of the vehicle, by always keeping their hands on the steering wheel.

The main enabling technologies in the Quadrifoglio MY20 are:

Lane Keep Assist: detects whether the vehicle is veering off from its lane if one of the direction indicators has not been triggered, and advises the driver using visuals and haptics, with active intervention to steer the vehicle back into lane.

Active Blind Spot Assist: monitors rear blind spots but also reports any approaching vehicles and corrects steering to avoid a collision.

Active Cruise Control: automatically adjusts the car’s speed to maintain a safe distance from the vehicles in front. In conjunction with the traffic sign recognition system, this technology adjusts the speed to within the set limit, for a more comfortable drive. Fitted as standard to the Quadrifoglio models.

Traffic Sign Recognition and Intelligent Speed Control: this system uses the on-board camera, recognises traffic signs, reports them on the display, and alerts the driver to the current speed limit. The system therefore suggests the driver reduce their speed to the limit detected. If the driver accepts, the cruise control settings are automatically adjusted.

Traffic Jam Assist and Highway Assist: To complement Active Cruise Control, these features monitor lateral positioning, keeping the car in the middle of the lane in heavy traffic (Traffic Jam Assistant) or on the motorway (Highway Assist), while also adjusting the speed according to the current limits.

Driver Attention Assist: monitors driver drowsiness and triggers an alert if necessary.

Performance guaranteed;

Their class-leading performance is guaranteed by the powerful, aluminum, 2.9-litre V6 Bi-turbo engine capable of unleashing 510hp and 600Nm torque at 2,500rpm. Delivery to the wheels is the responsibility of the Alfa™ Active Torque Vectoring system, assisted in the Stelvio Quadrifoglio by the innovative Q4 all-wheel-drive system. The Quadrifoglio models feature an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission, calibrated to optimise fluidity and comfort so the vehicles can easily be driven on all terrains. The transmission also features a lock-up clutch to give the driver a powerful feeling of in-gear acceleration once the gear is engaged.

Depending on the mode chosen with the AlfaTM DNA Pro, the automatic transmission optimises the ride and handling in all contexts of use. The Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio models are also incredibly efficient in terms of emission and fuel consumption, thanks to the electronically controlled cylinder deactivation system and the “sailing” function, available in Advanced Efficiency driving mode. In RACE mode the cars express their full potential with lightning-fast gear changes in only 150 milliseconds.

The Stelvio Quadrifoglio can accelerate from zero to 62mph in just 3.8 seconds, going on to a top speed of 176mph, while the Giulia Quadrifoglio reaches 62mph in just 3.9 seconds and goes on to 190mph.

The soundtrack accompanying the Quadrifoglio driving experience is provided by a dual mode quad exhaust system. Customers can opt to fit the MY20 Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio with a new Akrapovič exhaust, another dual mode system, in titanium with carbon fibre tailpipes, featuring an even more sophisticated sound. Each of the Quadrifoglio models are fitted with a range of systems designed to enhance the pleasure of driving, offering motorists the most authentic, engaging experience behind the wheel. These include:

AlfaTM Chassis Domain Control (CDC) acts as the “brain” of the Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio, and coordinates all the car’s electronic systems, to deliver the best performance and the utmost driving pleasure at all times. Specifically, the AlfaTM Chassis Domain Control system simultaneously manages and assigns specific tasks to the various active systems, such as the AlfaTM Active Torque Vectoring system, the AlfaTM Active Suspension system and the ESC, in accordance with the setting selected by the driver with the AlfaTM DNA Pro selector.

AlfaTM Active Torque Vectoring (ATV) optimises the Stelvio Quadrifoglio’s drive distribution and accentuates its sporting character. Two electronically controlled clutches in the rear differential make it possible to control torque delivery to each wheel separately. This ensures the optimal transfer of power to the ground even when the car is pushed to its dynamic limits. This makes the Stelvio safe and fun to drive at all times, without recourse to intrusive inputs from the stability control system.

AlfaTM Active Aero Splitter features exclusively on the Giulia Quadrifoglio, which actively manages downforce for higher performance and improved grip at high speed. Alfa DNATM Pro with Race mode modifies the car’s dynamic response according to which mode the driver selects: Dynamic, Natural, Advanced Efficiency and Race. The Dynamic setting modifies the engine control parameters for faster power delivery, increases the gear shift speed and modifies the suspension response for sportier on-road driving. The Natural mode sets the power delivery and suspensions to ensure comfort and demure handing in everyday driving. Race mode allows deactivation of the stability and traction controls, enhances the roar of the exhaust and maximises performance for a memorable circuit driving experience in real racing style. Advanced Efficiency (AE) mproves efficiency and cuts consumption with functions such as “sailing” and cylinder deactivation. The AE mode is also strongly recommended in low-grip situations.

Integrated Brake System (IBS) combines stability control with a traditional servo brake to deliver instantaneous brake response and shorten stopping distances, while also making a significant contribution to weight optimisation. Carbon ceramic brake discs are also available as an option, offering both lighter weight (17kg less than the standard type) and greater mechanical strength, even at the highest temperatures, in both dry and wet conditions.

AlfaTM Active Suspension continually and actively controls the suspensions and shock absorbers to reduce movement of the body of the car in all driving conditions. It constantly interacts with the CDC and Alfa DNA Pro and “calibrates” its actions to suit the driving mode selected, delivering unrivalled comfort and handling. The Quadrifoglio models feature double wishbone front suspension with semi-virtual steering axis, with a patented four-and-a-half link multilink system at the rear.
