Ongoing faults with my Jaguar F-Pace PHEV

I purchased a brand-new Jaguar F-Pace PHEV in 2021 and it has been back to the dealer 5 times with ongoing hybrid issues. At my most recent visit I was told that it required a part to be replaced but the part was not available from Jaguar, they could not give me a timeline for the part to arrive. In the end it took over 2 months for the part to arrive, in the meantime I was left driving my car with the hybrid system not working at all, so I had to pay for petrol which normally I would not have had to do as my daily commute is within the hybrid / electric range of my car.

I have really lost faith in this car and feel the dealership do not care, they just expect me to accept these ongoing issues and costs. What are my options regarding getting my money back. I have asked the salesman that sold me the car and he said he could offer me a similar car of the same year as mine but that I would have to pay towards it, given all the issues I have had, I do not feel that is acceptable.

Regards

Elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth,

Sorry to hear of your ongoing problems, purchasing a new car comes with the expectation of reliability and good aftersales care, neither of which you seem to have received.

You were correct in discussing changing the car with your dealership first, as this is the obvious place to start. Given that you are not satisfied with the options they have given you, the next step would be to contact Jaguar Ireland directly. Often a manufacturer may be able to influence the situation with the dealer and between them they may be able to offer you something more agreeable to yourself.

If the outcome of that is not satisfactory to you, then the next step would be to contact the SIMI who will act as an intermediary between you and the dealership.

After that the only remaining option is to engage a solicitor. By what you have told us about your situation, I think you would have a very strong case for rejecting the car, and it may take the threat of legal action for the dealership to admit to that.

Regards

Brian
