Cannonball 4X4 Road Trip 2021 is on.
Favoured for their rugged good looks and the confidence they inspire on the road, thanks to their raised driving position and perceived safety, large SUVs and 4×4 cars have become very popular in Ireland. Combine this with the thrill of wild, remote landscapes, breath-taking mountain drives, luxurious manor hotels and sumptuous dining as autumn bequeaths her most vibrant hues … and perhaps you have a bucket list adventure
Old-fashioned road trips are trendy again. Surveys show they are on the rise and on Instagram, the hashtag #roadtrip shows up 61.8 million times. Now in 2021, for the first time, Cannonball Ireland are adding a 4×4 adventure to their road-trip repertoire.
The road trip begins at 10am from Powerscourt Hotel in Wicklow on November 19th and takes in the last of Wicklow’s magnificent Autumn majesty in Enniskerry, Sally Gap, Glendalough and Hollywood. The newly restored Castle Durrow Country House Hotel in Laois is the first stop for lunch – a jewel of the midlands. After lunch, the convoy will drive southbound to the luxurious Great Southern Hotel in Killarney for 2 nights from where they will explore the Ring of Kerry, Dromquinna Manor, The Black Valley, Gap of Dunloe and finally Killarney National Park.
Registered vehicles include a Bentley Bentayga E-Hybrid and a Bentley Bentayga First Edition, a Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid, 2 Range Rover SVRs, 3 Range Rover Sport P400’s, a Land Rover Defender 90, a Ford Ranger, a BMW X5 M-Sport, a Land Rover Defender 110, a Mercedes-Benz GLE and many more will join the 50 vehicle convoy. The 4×4 Cannonball road-trip is fully compliant with government COVID-19 guidelines and is an outdoor event. Any car enthusiasts wishing to come out to see the cars on the route are asked to please adhere to the advice of the Cannonball COVID-19 marshals and maintain social distancing.
This year all Cannonball events are raising funds for The HOPE Foundation, an Irish Charity doing incredible work with the street children of Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) in India. HOPE funds and operates over 60 projects including 11 child protection homes, a hospital, an ambulance, counselling, food and nutrition, education, healthcare and the restoration of childhoods to children. Cannonball has already raised €1,250,000 for charities and has been rolling since 2009.
In true Cannonball style, this road-trip goes the extra mile with wonders at every turn including a bagpiper on a bridge, a falconer at breakfast and that rare ‘camaraderie’ that makes all Cannonball road-trips truly unforgettable experiences. The headline sponsor of the Cannonball 4×4 road-trip is 4×4 Vehicle Hire. The event is also sponsored by Karl Goodwin Motors and Majestic Ireland, a new company offering tailor made luxury road-trips and corporate events. See www.cannonball.ie for details of all road trips.
