The CUPRA Born is set to be one of the star attractions of this weekend’s Ideal Home Show.

Taking place at the RDS Simmonscourt in Dublin from Friday to Sunday, the Ideal Home Show is the biggest and most popular event of its kind in Ireland.

This year’s show features a Drive Electric Expo where carmakers will showcase the models leading the charge towards electrification.

Nearly 30,000 visitors, expected over three days, will be able to find out what it is like to have an electric or hybrid vehicle and the benefits they brings. With electric vehicles taking pride of place on show stands, visitors will learn answers to a range of questions about range, EV incentives and sustainability.

As the latest Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) to arrive in Ireland, the brand new CUPRA Born is sure to be one of the headline acts.

The Born is CUPRA’s first all-electric vehicle with a 540km electric range (77kWh battery version), convention-challenging styling and a chassis designed for sporty performance.

Developed at CUPRA’s headquarters in Martorell, Barcelona, the CUPRA Born is produced at the Zwickau plant in Germany. Available with three power outputs, ranging from 105PS to 231PS, prices in Ireland start from under €38,160*.

The range-topping e-Boost model can accelerate from zero to 100km/h in as little as 6.6 seconds. Meanwhile, Born’s sporty interior has been made using sustainable materials made from upcycled marine plastics.

CUPRA’s stand at the Ideal Home Show will feature a sumptuous Aurora Blue Born alongside a Formentor VZ e-Hybrid. With its striking Petrol Blue Matte paint job, 19in copper coloured alloys and black leather buckets seats, the electrified plug-in hybrid is the perfect partner for the Born. Visitors will be able to see CUPRA’s dedicated wallbox charger and see the exclusive CUPRA merchandise.

According to figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI), sales of electric vehicles doubled in 2021 as demand soared. There are now around 47,000 EVs on Irish roads and numbers are growing exponentially.

CUPRA is positioning itself as a leader in electrification following last week’s announcement of the creation of a new battery cell factory in Spain. The plant, located in Valencia, is the first Volkswagen Group “gigafactory” to be built outside of Germany. Combined with electrification of existing plants in Martorell and Pamplona, the €7bn investment will lead to the creation of 3,000 jobs.

The Born will be followed by the Tavascan in 2024 and the Urban Rebel in 2025 as CUPRA expands its line-up of all-electric models. CUPRA already boasts plug-in hybrid variants of the Leon, Leon Sportstourer and Formentor in its electrified portfolio.

Niall Phillips, Brand Director for SEAT & CUPRA in Ireland, said: “The Drive Electric Expo at the Ideal Home Show is the perfect showcase for the newly arrived Born. People are keen to find out more about the benefits of going electric, not just in terms of sustainability and fuel savings, but things like range, styling, sustainability and performance. The Born delivers on all those things while triggering an emotional response with its looks, quality and sporty driving. We are incredibly excited to show it off to the Irish public for the first time and the Drive Electric Expo is the perfect place for this.”
