Irish rugby legend Rory Best Buzzing for Ireland against the All-Blacks.
Rugby legend Rory Best has backed Ireland to beat the All Blacks at The Aviva Stadium on Friday. Best, who captained the national team from 2016 to 2019, insists Ireland can bounce back from the crushing World Cup quarter final exit at the hands of New Zealand in 2023. The Grand Slam winning hooker says Friday’s game is the perfect opportunity to make amends for the 28-24 defeat to the All Blacks in the 2023 Rugby World Cup quarter final. He said: “Ever since we beat them in 2016, for the first time ever, there’s a real confidence that Ireland can beat New Zealand. The last time we met being that World Cup quarter final loss, Ireland will want to exact revenge.”
Best mates: Rugby legends reunite
Legends reunited: Best was recently reunited with fellow British and Irish Lions legend Lewis Moody and five other rugby icons as they squeezed their oversized frames into the new seven-seat version of the Volkswagen ID. Buzz. The reunion saw lively chats about their playing days as the legends traded stories and shared their thoughts on how they are finding the transition into a post-playing career, as they swap tour buses for school buses.
Buzz style with added practicality: The Long Wheelbase ID. Buzz Buzz impresses with a large 86-kWh battery, space for up to seven people and a range of up to 487 km (WLTP). With three rows and seven seats, the ID. Buzz brings practicality and iconic design into the age of electric mobility. It has the largest ever panoramic glass roof, state-of-the-art infotainment, Driver Assistance systems and a flexible space concept. The latest ID. Buzz also sets a new standard for sustainability and comfort.
Band of brothers: With Best and Moody riding up front, the legends completed their line up for an all-star 7’s team when they picked up former Wales centre Jamie Roberts, Scotland second-row Jim Hamilton, ex-England back-row Martin Corry, France’s legendary flanker Serge Betsen and Ireland legend Shane Horgan.
All Blacks blockbuster: Ireland’s first outing in the four-game Autumn Nations Series comes against the All Blacks on Friday followed by games against Argentina (November 15th), Fiji (November 23rd) and Australia (November 30th). Caelan Doris will captain Ireland for the series opener. Meanwhile, New Zealand will be without Beauden Barrett and Codie Taylor after the pair failed Head Injury Assessments (HIA) after taking knocks in their 24-22 win over England at Twickenham on Saturday.
Home advantage: Best, who won 124 caps for Ireland in a glittering career, reckons the game being played on a Friday night under lights could have a significant bearing on the result. The Grand Slam winning captain, said: “It’s going to be the first Friday night game at the Aviva. The atmosphere will be incredible, and I fancy an Ireland win. Historically, very few teams beat us at the Aviva Stadium. Ireland have loads of experience, loads of quality players and that’s going to be the key for them so I’m very, very optimistic.”
