New Audi Q2 TFSI (1.5-litre) S Line – The Ultimate Premium Compact SUV.

New Audi Q2 Premium Compact SUV is Functional & Fun.

The new, second-generation, Audi Q2 is an urban SUV which features impressive, powerful design, a wide range of infotainment options and dynamic suspension technology. Highlights such as the progressive steering and the optional Adaptive Cruise Assist guarantee convenience and enormous fun at the wheel – not only in the city. Progressive steering offers impressive driving characteristics thanks to a variable steering ratio based on steering angle as well as speed-dependent steering assistance. The suspension in the new Q2 is available with optional adaptive shock absorbers which adjust to different driving situations thanks to electronic damper control.

Expressive New Design.

The new design of the front and rear bumpers and the dynamic, athletic body lines lend the new Audi Q2 its powerful and confident appearance. The striking exterior styling, along with new wheel designs and colours give each new Q2 its very own personal look. As a result of its revisions, the new Q2 has become a few millimetres longer, now measuring 4,21 metres, while the width (1.79 metres) and height (1.54 metres) have remained the same as before. The drag coefficient of 0.31 (with sport suspension) is a top-of-the-range value in the compact SUV market segment. Audi designers have now applied the motif of the polygon, which already characterised the front and shoulder line, to the rear end as well. The bumper has an integrated diffuser insert with large five-sided polygons. The front has also been modified, with the surfaces below the headlights emerging in a more striking manner. The octagonal Singleframe is slightly lower, making the front section appear wider. Its insert also interprets the polygon motif. The SE and S line equipment lines feature narrow slits between the radiator grille and the hood that are reminiscent of the Audi Sport quattro, an icon of the brand. The large implied air inlets also appear even more expressive, especially in the S line.

Spacious Interior.

The spacious interior of the Audi Q2 accommodates five passengers. The interior design echoes the taut design language of their exterior. The air vents and the gear lever knob, or selector lever in S tronic guise, have a new look. With the optional ‘ambient lighting package plus’, the trim strip on the instrument panel and the knee pads on the centre console feature elegant backlighting. The optional equipment is bundled into packages, as this provides a better overview of the extensive range during configuration. Whether it is climate control, comfort, functionality, interior, infotainment, or assist systems, all packages have been compiled so that they accommodate the customers’ wishes. Audi will roll out this strategy in all model series in the future and adjust them to the respective preferences. Boot space in the new Q2 measures in at 405-litres with the rear seats in their upright position, but this rises to 1,050-litres with the rear seat backs folded down.

Engine & Trim Options.

The new Audi Q2 comes in two trim lines – SE and S line – while engine options consist of a 3-cylinder 1.0-litre 110bhp petrol engine, a 4-cylinder 1.5-litre 150bhp petrol engine and a 4-cylinder 2.0-litre 116bhp turbo-diesel, which are badged 30 TFSI, 35 TFSI and 30 TDI respectively. A 6-speed manual gearbox comes as standard across all engine and trim levels, while a 7-speed automatic gearbox (S-tronic) is optionally available with the 35 TFSI and 30 TDI power units. Entry-level SE trim comes with key standard features such as LED headlights, 17” alloy wheels, C-pillar blade in Manhattan Grey metallic, contrast bumpers in Manhattan Grey paint finish, roof spoiler, side & rear windows with heat insulating glass, ISOFIX child seat anchorage points, electrically operated & heated door mirrors, tyre pressure loss indicator, dynamic steering, start/stop system, electronically controlled air-conditioning, cruise control with speed limiter, Front Collision Warning with Autonomous Emergency Braking, Hill Hold Assist, rear parking sensors, Audi Smartphone Interface, DAB digital radio, Bluetooth™, preparation for MMI Navigation, and Audi Connect Emergency Call & Service functionality for peace of mind in all situations.

Test Car.

The 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine in my Audi Q2 35 TFSI S line (6-speed manual) test car comes with 150bhp and 250Nm of torque which can propel the car from 0-100km/h in just 8.6-seconds, on its way to a top speed of 218km/h (where permitted). Capable of consuming as little as 5.9-litres of petrol for every 100kms driven on a WLTP combined driving cycle, the new Q2 35 TFSI will be as easy on the pocket as it is pleasing on the eye, while annual road tax is just €210. Building on the standard equipment found in the SE trim line, the range-topping S line specification benefits from 18” 5-spoke ‘Y’ design alloy wheels, C-pillar blade in Selenite Silver, front sports seats, leather & fabric seat coverings, black head liner material, LED interior lighting package, Audi Drive Select, and sports suspension. My test car looked great in its  Apple Green metallic paintwork, and this completely new colour to the Audi brand enabled the car to stand out from the crowd in shopping centre car parks, and the likes. The 1.5-litre TFSI engine is refined, punchy and frugal in equal measure, while cylinder-on-demand (COD) technology temporarily deactivates the second and third cylinders when the car is operating at low loads and engine speeds. If you want to adjust the way the Q2 S line drives, Audi’s Drive Select system allows you to change how sensitive the steering, and gearbox are, as well as how firm the suspension is, depending on whether you feel like a sporty or comfortable driving experience.

Verdict, Price & Warranty.

Overall, the new Audi Q2 is truly a great all-rounder in every respect. It is deceptively spacious on the inside, and it feels like a premium product should in terms of build quality, comfort, technology and drivability. On-the road pricing for the new Q2 starts at €34,480 for the 30 TFSI 110bhp, with my test car specification priced from €39,170. Audi offer a comprehensive three-year/90,000km manufacturer’s warranty, a three-year paint warranty and a twelve-year body protection warranty across all model ranges.
