The iconic Jeep brand is recognised the world over for its rich heritage that dates back to the 1940s when the go-anywhere Jeep 4×4 established the Jeep brand as the undisputed leader in 4×4 technology. The new Avenger is the first Jeep to have been designed and engineered in Europe, manufactured in Europe, and sold exclusively in Europe, and it sets the theme for a host of new Jeep models coming our way in next few years. Measuring in at just 4.08-metres in length, the Avenger successfully manages to look compact and robust on the outside, and substantial on the inside.
Innovative Shock-Resistant Design.
Designed with functionality in mind, the Jeep Avenger sets new standards for comfort and convenience in urban commuting or off-road adventures. Its innovative shock-resistant design protects the lights and skid plates from low-speed impacts, with the vehicle completely shielded by the 360-degree bodywork protectors. The perfectly-proportioned muscular shapes that embody the exterior of the Avenger are enhanced by Jeep’s trademark seven-slot front grille, while the full-LED headlights and distinctive rear lights make the Avenger easily recognisable at first glance. In order to aid practicality, the Avenger’s standard 325-litre boot capacity can be expanded to 1,218-litres by dropping the rear seat backs.
Dual Motors.
Initially offered with a choice of pure petrol, mild hybrid (MHEV) or fully-electric (BEV) powertrains – all of which are equally priced from just €29,995 – the Avenger range has now been joined by a 4xe model for drivers who want to venture further off-road. The MHEV powertrain in the Avenger 4xe offers a total power output of 136hp with two 21kW electric motors (one on the front and one on the rear axle), all-wheel drive and dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The new Avenger 4xe is offered in three trim guises: Upland, Overland and The North Face Edition. Key standard equipment in entry-level Upland trim includes a 10.25-inch TFT display, 10.25-inch DAB radio & infotainment system with 6 speakers, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with wireless mirroring, front central armrest with storage, height adjustable cargo floor, 17-inch black alloy wheels with green accents, LED reflector headlights, an All-Terrain Mode Selector, alarm, automatic air-conditioning, cruise control, hill descent control, keyless start, rear parking sensors and Vulnerable Road User Recognition (AEB) – pedestrian & cyclist. Additional standard specification in Overland trim includes front & rear velour floor mats, bi-function LED projector headlamps, LED tail lamps, heated & folding door mirrors with puddle lamps, rear privacy glass, welcome & leaving lamps, wireless charging, 360 degree parking sensors, Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centring & Traffic Jam Assist, and an Urban Blind Spot Monitor. For seasoned adventure seekers, The North Face Edition features durable & waterproof seat material with Summit Gold profile, heated front seats, dashboard with topographic lines, Mont Blanc profile and a “1 of 4,806” logo, rubber floor mats, 17-inch black alloy wheels with Summit Gold accents, front bumper with Summit Gold accents, anti-reflection bonnet sticker with The North Face logo, heated windscreen (wiper area only), handsfree tailgate, and a navigation system. Also included is an Adventure Kit, comprising of a tent with The North Face and Jeep branding, base camp box, and water bottle. No matter what trim level is chosen, the Avenger 4xe comes with a highly capable Selec-Terrain system with four distinct all-terrain modes. These modes – Auto, Snow, Sand & Mud, and Sport – adjust torque distribution, traction control, and transmission shifting to optimise grip across different surfaces.
On The Road.
My test car was a Jeep Avenger 4xe Upland, which was finished in Snow (white) metallic paintwork with contrasting black alloy wheels, black roof & door mirrors, and black body cladding and bumper inserts. The Avenger 4xe is specifically designed to face any type of on-road and off-road challenge, and its rugged, go-anywhere look successfully compliments that theory. The new all-wheel drive system guarantees capability and safety, with 210mm of ground clearance and 400mm of water fording capacity to keep you going when the going gets tough. Robust bumpers in anti-scratch material, increased protection, roof rails and a rear tow hook enhance its off-road credentials too. The cabin feels roomy – even for adults over 6 feet tall – and overall build quality is excellent, while drivers will find the logical dash layout easy to use. Jeep claims there are 34 litres of storage in the cabin, with the space underneath the central screen particularly useful. The infotainment system is right up-to-date in terms of the technology used, the screen is a good size, and it is responsive too. The climate controls sit on a row of piano-style buttons underneath the touchscreen, and this will come as good news for many drivers. On the road, the 4xe’s dynamic ability really shines through, with the characteristically rigid structure and firm suspension keeping body control in check, without compromising overall comfort in the process. The Avenger 4xe is a really easy car to drive around town, where its light steering, compact size and relatively-high seating position prove invaluable. In urban environments, the Avenger 4xe proves itself to be refined and easy to manoeuvre, with comfortable ride quality over speed bumps, and light, accurate steering that makes it genuinely pleasant in tight conditions. The multi-link rear suspension pays dividends here, absorbing road imperfections with terrific composure. The 4xe is equally impressive off-road, as the Selec-Terrain modes are genuinely effective. The rear motor delivers an instant traction response when required, and is especially competent on light off-road trails and under slippery conditions. With an official WLTP fuel consumption figure of 5.4l/100km on a combined driving cycle, and annual road tax of just €200, the Avenger 4xe should prove to be easy on the pocket, too.
