New MG ZS Long Range EV – More Tech, More Spec & More Range.

New MG ZS Long Range – More Tech, More Spec, More Range.

In terms of value for money in the fully-electric SUV market, the new MG ZS EV Long Range really is in a class of its own. Loaded with new design features and upgraded technology, this is the most technologically-advanced MG ever. The new MG ZS includes an extended range of up to 440kms on a single charge, enhanced control with iSMART app technology, fast charging capability, a 360-degree camera and so much more. The MG ZS EV Long Range now takes electrified driving to new lengths, with a long range 72.6kWh lithium-ion battery based on a novel modular design that delivers higher energy density without sacrificing battery safety or size. Styling revisions include a stamped-effect front grille designed to improve aerodynamics, with a side-opening charging port located within the grille, while newly designed front and rear bumpers also feature as part of the model upgrade.

Two Trim Levels;

The new MG ZS EV Long Range is available in a choice of two trim levels – Excite and Exclusive. Even entry-level Excite models come with plenty of standard equipment, such as 17” alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, 360-degree camera, air-conditioning, satellite navigation and an 10.1” colour infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functionality. MG Pilot driver assistance systems also come as standard, with features such as Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian and Bicycle Detection, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning System, Traffic Jam Assist, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, Intelligent High Beam Assist, ABS, and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution providing terrific peace-of-mind for all occupants. Top-spec Exclusive cars include a panoramic sky roof and leather style seats that are heated in the front, along with silver roof rails, 6-speaker audio system with 3D sound, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, 6-way electric driver’s seat adjustment, wireless mobile phone charging, and electric door mirrors.

Silent Performance;

Powering the MG ZS is a synchronous motor which produces 156PS (154bhp) and 280Nm of torque through a single-speed automatic transmission, with power being delivered to the front wheels in a smooth and silent fashion. The MG ZS can accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 8.4-seconds, making it quicker off the mark than many conventionally-powered SUV rivals. The battery in the ZS EV can be charged from a 7kW domestic wall box charger in around ten and a half hours (0-100%), or just 42 minutes to 80% from a 100kW rapid charger. A more commonly-found 50kW public charger can complete the same task in 63 minutes, which is just enough time to do the weekly supermarket shopping.

Road Test;

On the road, the MG ZS EV tackles rutted road surfaces with ease, while a predictable response from the car’s brake pedal means you can easily judge how much pressure to apply if you want to slow down smoothly. There are three levels of regenerative braking available, and these levels can be easily sourced by way of a switch located at the bottom of the dashboard. The MG ZS EV can cover ground quickly from a standing start, while the car remains composed as you do so. Cabin quality in the ZS EV is impressive, with soft-touch plastics on the dashboard, along with solid-felling buttons for the major controls. Visibility from the windscreen and side windows is good, while the view out the rear window is superb. Interior space within the cabin of the MG ZS EV is generous and, thanks to clever packaging, space up front is good, with plenty of head and leg room for the driver and passenger. Rear space is also excellent, and is far more generous than many buyers might expect. Even with a panoramic sky roof fitted (standard on Exclusive trim), there is enough head room for six-foot passengers, plus more leg room than most buyers will probably ever require. The ZS EV has a boot capacity of 448-litres with the rear seat backs in place, but dropping the rear seats will expose a cavernous 1,100-litre space for larger loads. Managed by MG’s Intelligent Battery Temperature Control system, the water-cooled battery pack in the ZS is insulated from external temperature variations, delivering the optimum power and range whatever the weather. Designed to achieve dynamic handling and chassis feel, the ZS EV’s powertrain has been intelligently packaged to achieve a low centre of gravity. Housed underneath the passenger compartment as part of the ZS EV’s flat-floor architecture, the balanced distribution of weight keeps the ZS EV planted to the road through the corners.

Pricing & Warranty;

Overall, the new MG ZS Long Range EV is a very impressive car, and it offers fabulous value for money in both Excite and Exclusive trim levels. A full five-star NCAP crash test rating keeps the ZS EV in line with many of its rivals in terms of crash protection, while a standard seven-year warranty may very well seal the deal for many buyers. The new MG ZS Long Range Excite specification is priced at just €32,995, with the range-topping Exclusive specification priced at €35,995 (both prices are inclusive of VRT relief and an SEAI grant – t’s & c’s apply).
