New PEUGEOT E-5008 7-SEAT SUV – Electrified People Mover.

New PEUGEOT E-5008 – Electrified People Mover.

The new Peugeot E-5008 is the French manufacturer’s flagship all-electric, seven-seat SUV, blending French design flair with family-friendly practicality and impressive versatility. It offers a rare combination of a fully-electric powertrain, a spacious seven-seat layout, and competitive pricing. Based on the state-of-the-art STLA Medium platform, the new E-5008 offers a refined driving experience and interior ambience, along with excellent efficiency, and a range of up to 502km on a WLTP combined driving cycle, or up to 619km on a continuous urban cycle.

Confident Stance.

As with Peugeot’s smaller SUV, the E-3008, the new E-5008 embodies the brand’s latest design language, providing it with a more confident and assertive stance than its predecessor. The E-5008’s aerodynamic profile, high beltline, and gloss black accents create a powerful and sophisticated presence. The large SUVs endearing design combines strength and refinement, dynamism and smoothness, while its striking front end gives it a strong personality. At the rear, the tailgate features a clean, horizontal design with distinctive 3-claw LED taillights connected by a black accent strip bearing the Peugeot name, while the bumper incorporates subtle skid plate elements.

Spacious Cabin & Boot.

Measuring in a just under 4.8 metres in length, 1.89 metres in width, and 1.69 metres in height, the new 5008 has grown slightly in all dimensions compared to the previous version, and this results in a more commanding road presence and increased interior space. The wheelbase has been extended to 2.9 metres, and passengers in the second and third row seats will benefit from the enhanced leg and headroom on offer. Boot space in the new 5008 is also impressive, with 348-litres, 916-litres, and a huge 2,232-litres available in 7-seat, 5-seat and 2-seat configurations respectively. In order to enhance available legroom and overall spaciousness, the 2nd row seats tilt and slide individually, and this feature also provides easy access to the 3rd row seats.

High-Tech Cabin.

The plush cabin in the new E-5008 features a 21-inch Peugeot Panoramic i-Cockpit® (standard across all versions) and this puts the driver and passengers in a high-tech and user-friendly environment. The raised head-up display and large central touchscreen have been integrated into a single curved panoramic screen. Below the screen is a configurable virtual i-Toggle display, with 10 customisable shortcuts, and the gear selector and start/stop button are located to the right of this screen in order to free-up space on the stylish centre console. The seats are comfortable and supportive in equal measure, and the cabin has an airy feel to it.

Charging Options.

With a maximum DC charging capacity of 160kW, and a maximum AC capacity of 11kW, the E-5008 can achieve a 20-80% charge in just 30 minutes at a public fast charge station, or in as little as 6.75 hours via a 7kW domestic wall-box charger. For drivers with access to an 11kW domestic charger, this time is reduced to just 4.5 hours.

Two Trim Options: Allure and GT.

The new E-5008 is available in Allure and GT trims, both of which feature a generous array of equipment as standard. The Allure version features seats finished in embossed fabric with ‘Quartz’ stitching and leather-effect trim. It also comes with, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, wireless smartphone charging, keyless entry and start, 360-degree Vision & Drive assist pack, front and rear parking sensors, blind spot detection, 3-claw LED daytime running lights, and 18-inch or 19-inch alloy wheels for the Hybrid and electric variants respectively. Building on the generous Allure specification, GT versions offer a ‘Black Diamond’ roof and rear spoiler, embossed NEW UZIRIS fabric & TEP Isabella upholstery featuring stylish ‘Iced Clay’ stitching, Peugeot Pixel LED headlamps with 3-claw LED daytime running lights with adaptive high beam assist, full 3D LED rear lights with Peugeot ‘claw effect’ daytime running light signature, 8-colour extended ambient lighting, handsfree smart electric tailgate,  row 2 rear central armrest with two cupholders and smartphone holder, 360-degree Vision & Drive assist pack including highway assist 2.0, Peugeot shield on front wings, sunblind’s integrated in the rear doors, a heated steering wheel, and 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.

Test Car Details.

My Peugeot E-5008 GT test car was finished in elegant Titane Grey metallic paintwork and sporty 19-inch ‘Fuji’ diamond-cut alloy wheels. The single front-wheel-drive electric motor is powered by a Lithium-ion NMC battery with a usable capacity of 73 kWh, and it produces 210hp and 345Nm of instant torque. The car can sprint from 0-100km/h in 9.7 seconds, on its way to an electronically-limited top speed of 170km/h (where permitted). Out on a motorway, the E-5008 is very composed, comfortable and impressively engaging, with power available to make sure getting up to speed isn’t a chore. The car soaks up bumps well, and there is not much in the way of road noise either. The car is also easy to drive around town, and this is where the full-electric powertrain really shines. The E-5008 offers a choice of drive modes – Eco, Normal and Sport – which adjust performance for efficiency, balanced driving, or a more dynamic experience. Thanks to a tight turning circle, the E-5008 is easy to park, and this is helped greatly by the front & rear parking sensors and high-quality 360-degree camera system that come as standard, while the compact steering wheel makes the car feel agile at all times. A supple suspension set-up, along with the E-5008’s long wheelbase, means the car handles rutted road surfaces and speed ramps with ease, and this doesn’t come at the expense of body control, because it keeps movements in check with a refined and plush feel.

Verdict, Price & Warranty.

The new Peugeot E-5008 isn’t just another electric SUV – it is a statement that zero-emissions driving needn’t compromise on space, style, or sophistication. As with the new 5008 Hybrid, the new E-5008 offers the perfect blend of family practicality, stunning design and impressive efficiency, along with one of the best cabins around. Pricing for the new E-5008 starts at €50,995 in Allure trim, with the GT version priced from €54,995 (prices quoted are inclusive of VRT relief and SEAI Grant for private buyers). A comprehensive 5-year/100,000km Peugeot warranty comes as standard, along with an 8-year/160,000km battery warranty, and a 3-year roadside assistance package for total peace of mind motoring.
