All-New Renault Kangoo Van (Diesel) is Efficient, Smart & Versatile.

All-New Renault Kangoo Van is Efficient, Smart & Versatile.

The all-new Renault Kangoo Van benefits from innovative technology and practical features, along with a striking new design, and it is available with a choice of diesel or 100% electric engines. With improved loading facilities, payloads of up to 970kg and load volume up to 4.2-cubic metres, the new Kangoo is the perfect small van for Irish businesses. The functional design of the new Kangoo, along with its focus on safety and quality, has already gained global recognition, including winning International Van of the Year 2022. The new Kangoo Van comes with twenty optional advanced innovative driving assistance systems that promise a safe and secure driving experience.

Diesel or Electric Power.

Catering to an increasingly discerning small van customer, the new Kangoo comes generously equipped, with the diesel versions powered by a smooth and efficient 1.5 dCi engine (95 or 115bhp) with a choice of 6-speed manual or 7-speed EDC (dual-clutch automatic) transmissions. The electric versions (badged E-Tech) move the game forward for commercial EV drivers, featuring a significantly increased range of 300km, courtesy of a new 45kWh battery. Buyers can also choose between two wheelbases – Medium (ML19) or Long (LL21) – and two trim levels – Start and Advance. Key standard equipment in ‘Start’ trim includes air-conditioning, cruise control, DAB radio, Bluetooth, electric windows and mirrors, deadlocking, driver airbag, roof bar fixings, and a 3.5” monochrome TFT driver information display. Upgrading to ‘Advance’ trim adds smartphone integration with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, electric parking brake, EASY LINK display with an 8” touchscreen, cloth upholstery with yellow accents, passenger bench seat, LED lighting in load area, and rear parking sensors.

More Space & More Capacity.

From a practical perspective, the new Kangoo offers impressive physical space and carrying capacity. Load volume is generous at 3.3-cublic metres on ML19 versions and 4.2-cubic metres on ML21 versions, along with payloads of 800kg and 970kg respectively. Twin sliding side doors come as standard in order to allow easy access from either side of the van, along with barn-style (unglazed) rear doors with 180-degree opening.

Test Van Details.

My test van was a new Kangoo ML19 dCi 115 Advance, which was finished in Highland Grey metallic paintwork and 16” flex wheel trims (which look remarkably like alloy wheels).. Optional extras fitted include AEBS (Automatic Emergency Braking System), blind spot intervention, driver attention warning, 360-degree parking sensors (front, rear and lateral ultra-sonic sensors), emergency lane keeping assist, reversing camera, smart rear view mirror, tyre pressure monitoring system, leather steering wheel, wooden flooring in load area, wooden trims, an internal roof rack, and a standard passenger seat (2 front seats in lieu of 3). The new Kangoo Van is quieter and more refined than the previous-generation model, making it more relaxing to drive at motorway speeds, and road noise is impressively supressed. The Kangoo’s steering is perfectly weighted for city and back road driving, and feels solid and secure at higher speeds. A soft suspension set-up benefits occupant comfort on every journey, and the van copes well with rutted road surfaces and speed ramps. The car-like cabin in the new Kangoo Van features a sweeping dashboard, ergonomic seats and infotainment screens, and everything that is needed to drive the Kangoo is located within easy reach. The high-set gearstick frees up cabin space in the footwell areas, and physical buttons for the climate control make it easier to adjust temperature and fan speed without the need to take your eyes off the road unnecessarily. The driver’s seat is height-adjustable, and can slide forward and rearward as necessary, and the steering wheel is adjustable for reach and rake, so it is easy to get comfortable. The overall feeling within the cabin is one of comfort, coherence and durability, with lots of storage space for odds and ends of all sorts. The new Kangoo Van is significantly bigger all round than its predecessor, and this results in greater levels of elbow and leg room in the cabin. The increased size also results in more cargo space, making it one of the biggest vans in the small van class. Adding to the Kangoo Van’s versatility is the Renault Easy Inside Rack, which allows for the storage of ladders and other long items below the roof on the driver’s side, and above the cargo space.

Verdict, Pricing & Warranty.

The all-new Renault Kangoo is a more handsome van that what went before it, and it now has styling to keep it in line with the larger Trafic van as well as Renault’s passenger car range. The spacious cabin shares many features with the latest Clio supermini, thereby benefitting from a premium, high quality look and feel. With a choice of diesel or fully-electric drivetrains, along with a choice of 2 body lengths, and 2 trim levels, the new Renault Kangoo Van is more appealing than ever before. Pricing starts at just €26,495 (RRP), with my highly-specified test van priced at €34,750 – inclusive of optional extras with a value of €5,455. The new Renault Kangoo Van comes with warranty protection for 5. Years or 200,000km as standard – one of the best warranty covers on the Irish market.
