Clutch covered by warranty

Hello,

I have a 2018 Hyundai Tucson and I have been told that the clutch requires replacing. My Hyundai dealer has told me that clutches are not covered by my 5-year warranty and that I will have to pay for it myself, are they correct, the longer warranty was one of my main reasons for buying a Hyundai in the first place.

Thanks in advance
Martin

Hi Martin,

Having a clutch replaced under warranty is possible, depending on why it requires replacing. You have not mentioned what issue you are having with it, but if it is slipping when taking off from a stop, then that is usually a sign of normal wear and tear and would generally not be covered by a warranty.

If, however, you are having a different issue, i.e., a knocking noise, vibration or an issue with the pedal, then these can be an indication that there may have been a mechanical failure relating to the flywheel, hydraulic system, clutch disc, pressure plate or springs, and if that is the case, then yes they should be covered by your warranty, providing you are within Hyundai’s warranty terms and conditions.

Get back on to your dealer and ask what exactly is wrong with the clutch, and which component has failed.

Regards

Brian
