Stop / Start not working

The stop / start feature on my 2019 Ford Focus does not work very often, and I have noticed that it never works on warm days. I have brought the car to a main dealer and to my local mechanic for this issue, both have said that there is no fault with the car and that it could be down to my driving style. Are they just fobbing me off, and is there something that can be done to fix this issue.

Regards

Barry

Hi Barry,

Stop / Start systems can be very sensitive to a number of factors, some of which can be down to how the car is being driven, and some can be due to an issue with the car.

Battery voltage and battery monitoring systems play a big role in if, and when a car will trigger the stop / start system. If battery voltage is not at or near its optimum level (usually around 90% fully charged), then the car will make the decision not to activate the system, so it may be worth having the battery checked if it has not been already.

Having a number of electrical features turned on at the same time (radio, heater, lights, heated rear window) will also affect if the system activates or not, and it is interesting that you say that it never works on warm days, this could be down to something as simple as having your air conditioning turned on, as that alone can cause the system not to activate.

Hope this helps,

Brian
