‘Connected Fleet’ unlocks Michelin’s own fleet savings.

‘CONNECTED FLEET’ UNLOCKS MICHELIN’S OWN FLEET SAVINGS.

Van and car fleet owners focused on reducing operational overheads and CO2 emissions whilst preparing to switch from diesel to electric, might gen-up on results achieved by tyre manufacturer Michelin within its own transport fleet.

In a statement relating to their in-house Connected Fleet programme, the French tyre maker reports a 25 per cent cut in ‘harsh driving’ events (hard acceleration and heavy braking) across the 54 vans operated by its UK Services and Solutions division.

“The savings were unlocked after introducing the same fleet management technologies it deploys for end-user fleets, in a move that showcases the Group’s holistic approach to safety and sustainability,” the company said.

Initially installed across all vans used by their mobile technicians and fleet inspectors, and now extended to 20 company cars, the Connected Fleet approach is designed to deliver enhanced performance analysis based on smart data and tools that deliver better insights and better visibility.

Analysis of data shows the technology improving driver behaviour after reducing speeding events by 46 per cent, particularly in 30mph and 50mph zones, and cutting engine idling by 14 per cent.

Combined, these changes in driving style, fuel efficiency across the fleet has improved by 5.8 per cent, delivering a notable financial saving, whilst also lowering CO2 emissions by 5.6 per cent per kilometre travelled.

Supported by a ‘driver incentive scheme’ designed to reward drivers for reducing harsh braking and acceleration, the scheme is also using EV transition tools to aid fleet users transitioning cars and vans from diesel to electric.
