Exterior;

The Renault Mégane continues the design revolution developed and honed throughout the rest of the model line-up including the All-New Clio and All-New Captur. The latest enhancements provide more sculpted styling and distinct dynamic lines for even greater character and sophistication.

At the front of the New Mégane, the headlights now feature full LED Pure Vision technology for enhanced visibility and a more premium look. Available across the Mégane line-up, it replaces all previous lighting units. The headlamp beam has increased by almost 30%, better illuminating the area ahead of the vehicle, improving safety and convenience as well as being more efficient.

The recognisable C-shaped front daytime running lights remain, now with distinctive indicators incorporated into the unit. At the rear, all lights are now LED too with a wide lighting signature stretching across the boot lid with dynamic rear indicators.

The rest of the front of the vehicle has received subtle, sophisticated design changes with a redesigned front bumper with tweaked lower grille, incorporating chrome trim on Iconic models and a sportier design on R.S. Line models featuring new fog lights and a Formula 1-style full width front blade. The fog lights also incorporate new deflectors at the front of the wheel arches for improved aerodynamics.

To reflect the changes at the front of the New Mégane, the rear bumpers have also been modified with a more sophisticated lower panel.

In profile, a new wing design paired with door handle lighting provide a premium feel both at night and in daylight, while new diamond-turned alloy wheel designs are available across both Iconic and R.S. Line specifications. For Iconic, 16-inch Impulse wheels are standard, while R.S. Line alloy wheels are 17 inches for the sportier-looking R.S. Line variant.

The New Mégane now features a new handsfree key card that unlocks the vehicle on approach, and automatically locks when the driver leaves the vehicle, with no need to touch the door handle.

The colour palette has been enhanced, with a total of 10 body colours available from launch across Mégane Hatch and Mégane Sport Tourer models. Three new colours have been introduced: Copper, Baltic Grey and Highland Grey.

Interior;

The New Mégane’s cabin has become a more refined and premium environment for driver and passengers with a suite of design and connectivity enhancements.

The elegant design boasts upgraded materials throughout, new seat upholstery, the inclusion of new infotainment screens and more intuitive controls.

A defining feature in the New Mégane’s interior is the portrait touchscreen infotainment system. Now available with a screen up to 9.3 inches on Mégane R.S. Line, operating the car’s key functions has never been easier.

The EASY LINK system is available in 7.0- or 9.3-inch options, both delivering a comprehensive user experience via an intuitive display on the centre console. Revised graphics and a glossy new screen enhance the experience, with full smartphone connectivity including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. All vehicle settings and functions are operated through this screen, including multimedia, navigation and Multi Sense settings.

Complementing the latest screen setup is a new 10-inch Driver Information Display, standard on R.S. Line models. Delivering a fully digital experience, the new digital dashboard is fully customisable with the ability to display a full 3D map right in front of the driver, or users can prioritise trip information, with large speed displays and accompanying information to truly tailor the driving experience.

The new technology inside the New Mégane is encompassed in a more refined and premium environment, with modern and upmarket upgrades to the interior details.

The revised heating and ventilation controls located below the screen on the centre console now feature a temperature display inside the high quality bevelled rotary controls. The new controls deliver improved ergonomics with clearer buttons and easier, faster operation for the driver.

In addition, new materials used for the steering wheel and seat upholstery enhance the interior feel, while driver assistance functions such as cruise control, as well as multimedia and voice control, can now be operated simply via the steering wheel. Comfort can also be improved further with optional electric adjustment for the driver’s seat, while a new rimless electrochromic rear-view mirror adds a modern touch.

The newly introduced R.S. Line models feature a selection of enhancements to give a dynamic feel to go with its badge. Sporty aluminium pedals, carbon-look dashboard inserts and a perforated leather steering wheel complementing the red and grey topstitching on the seats and gear lever round off the R.S. Line embellishments. Bolstered sports seats can be upgraded to Alcantara options, while a suite of R.S. badges feature throughout.

Exceptional practicality;

The Mégane Sport Tourer offers a generous total 521-litres (VDA) of luggage space, with the added benefit of a modular boot that is extremely straight forward to use.

The boot floor has two positions. Selecting the high position creates a flat floor when the rear seat is folded to facilitate the loading of bulky items. In this configuration, storage space is available beneath the floor. Alternatively, setting the floor in its lower position creates maximum volume in a single area.

The Mégane Sport Tourer also has a host of storage details that work to make everyday life easier. There are lateral storage bins on each side of the boot, next to the wheel arches and, as an option, a luggage safety net that can be used vertically. It is also possible to separate the boot into two compartments, front and rear, to prevent items from sliding around.

The soft luggage cover can easily be rolled up to facilitate loading or removed completely if needed. Beneath the floor, it has a dedicated storage area that does not detract from carrying capacity.

Thanks to handles usefully located within the boot area, Renault’s Easy Fold system enables simple unlocking and automatic folding of the 60/40-split rear seat.

Powertrains, chassis and driving dynamics;

The New Mégane offers a driving experience to suit all tastes and preferences. It provides a balance of comfort and dynamic agility. In addition, the Mégane R.S. delivers a truly engaging driving experience for enthusiasts.

 Engines;

The Mégane range offers a selection of petrol and diesel engines for buyers to choose from, both of which come with a choice of a six-speed manual or Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) seven-speed automatic transmissions, while both Hatch and Sport Tourer models are available with Renault’s new E-TECH Plug-in hybrid powertrain.

The New Mégane’s economy performance is thanks to the sleek shape and low weight of the car, weighing from 1,353kg (TCe 140 manual Hatch) and a selection of advanced technologies. Renault’s Stop&Start system features as standard, while the double-clutch EDC transmission provides competitive economy figures. Meanwhile, an ECO driving mode optimises the engine’s performance when cruising, while the Renault Driving eco2 feature helps owners adopt a more economical driving style and features standard brake energy recovery.

Beginning with the 1.3-litre TCe petrol engine, the Mégane is available in this configuration with 140hp and 240Nm of torque, with a choice of six-speed manual or seven-speed EDC automatic transmissions.

The TCe 140 engine can consume as little as 6l/100km, for CO2 emissions as low as 135g/km, while performance remains strong with zero to 100km/h taking 9.5 seconds (9.2 seconds with EDC transmission).

Alternatively, a highly efficient diesel is available, perfectly suited to high-mileage drivers. The 1.5-litre Blue dCi engine produces 115hp, engineered to meet stringent anti-pollution standards and includes selective catalytic reduction (SCR). It is available with the six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Fitted with the EDC transmission, the 1.5-litre Blue dCi engine accelerates from zero to 100km/h in 10.6 seconds (11.1 seconds for the manual), and returns 4.6l/100km (4.5l/100km for the manual), with CO2 emissions as low as 117g/km. Performance and economy figures are consistent across Mégane Hatch and Mégane Sport Tourer body styles.

Driving;

The Mégane’s benchmark blend of engaging dynamics and comfort has been further enhanced and refined.

The power steering system has undergone a slight weight reduction and features new, more powerful and more responsive onboard electronics, with more precise reactions to inputs from the driver.

Complementing the revised steering system is the latest Multi Sense driving mode selection. Evolved for the New Mégane, Multi Sense now offers greater differentiation between the various driving modes.

  • Sport: steering assist is now 25% firmer and the engine mapping offers 20-25% more torque at the same throttle position for a more dynamic drive
  • Comfort: steering assistance increased for greater flexibility and ease of driving, from 10 to 40% depending on the vehicle speed

For vehicles fitted with EDC transmissions, engaging Sport mode also brings faster gear shifts with reduced shift times for more rapid responses, while in Comfort mode they are reduced for a more refined driving experience.

E-TECH Plug-in hybrid;

For the first time ever, the New Mégane is available with a Plug-in hybrid powertrain, with the New Mégane Sport Tourer E-TECH Plug-in hybrid initially available to Irish customers, with the Hatch version with the same powertrain following in Spring 2021.

The new E-TECH powertrain provides optimum versatility and a new electric experience to Mégane customers, delivering reduced CO2 emissions, increased fuel efficiency and all-electric driving without compromising the vehicle’s long-distance abilities. The system features advanced energy optimisation and recovery systems with high-tech gearbox technology, all developed and designed with knowledge gained from Renault’s extensive experience in Formula 1.

Using a 1.6-litre petrol engine with two electric motors, 9.8kWh (400V) battery and an innovative multi-mode clutchless transmission, gear shifting is optimised for maximum performance and efficiency, working seamlessly with the advanced Plug-in hybrid powertrain for a total power output of 160hp, plus 144Nm of torque from the engine and 205Nm from the electric motor.

The Mégane E-TECH Plug-in hybrid is capable of travelling up to 50km in full-electric mode, engaged with a dedicated button on the centre console, or via MULTI-SENSE driving modes on the touchscreen. This makes it ideal for urban driving, where drivers can experience all-electric driving for the majority of journeys. For longer distances, the petrol engine seamlessly engages and delivers a hybrid driving experience.

Energy optimisation and recovery expertise inspired by Formula 1 means the Mégane E-TECH Plug-in hybrid is as efficient as possible. Energy is automatically recovered during deceleration and braking and is used to recharge the battery, while the Mégane E-TECH Plug-in hybrid also starts in electric mode every time, optimising efficiency and always running in the most efficient way possible. The electric motor – in combination with the petrol engine – also delivers more rapid responses for a unique driving experience and minimal energy loss.

A choice of MULTI-SENSE driving modes are available to select. Pure mode engages full electric mode if there is enough charge in the battery and is the default mode on start-up. MySense optimises hybrid running for lower running costs, switching between electric power and engine running as necessary. An E-Save feature helps to save battery power that can be deployed later on, for example in urban areas. Sport mode engages full engine and electric power for the most responsive drive.

The Mégane Sport Tourer E-TECH Plug-in hybrid retains its load-carrying capabilities with 447 litres of space on offer. The charging cables can be stored beneath the boot floor, freeing up maximum boot space in the rest of the cargo area. The fold-flat rear bench remains, as does the front passenger seat that can fold flat, meaning there is no compromise when considering the Plug-in hybrid model.

Efficiency is at the heart of the Plug-in hybrid powertrain, delivering fuel economy of 1.3l/100km and CO2 emissions from 30g/km.

Technologies;

The New Mégane incorporates the very latest technology in the updated cabin, ensuring it’s one of the most advanced Renault models available. Enhancing the driving experience are new EASY LINK touchscreen infotainment systems, a new TFT digital instrument cluster and Multi Sense driving modes, plus advanced driver assistance systems.

New EASY LINK system

The New Mégane features the most up to date EASY LINK infotainment systems, available in two versions, both of which are compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

  • 0-inch with integrated sat-nav. Standard on Mégane Iconic.
  • 3-inch portrait version with integrated sat-nav. Standard on Mégane R.S. Line.

Following its introduction on New ZOE, All-New Clio and All-New Captur, the system features the latest interface inspired by those found on smartphone displays, prioritising ease of use and an ergonomic experience. The modular widgets allow the driver to fully customise the screen to give direct access to their favourite apps and features with fewer taps of the screen.

Driver Information Display;

The latest TFT Driver Information Display, further enhances the level of easily accessible information with minimal distraction. Measuring 10 inches, the digital instrument cluster displays key information to the driver via its crisp display and is fully customisable so the driver can select their desired information to feature more prominently if desired.

As well as displaying key vehicle information such as speed, fuel economy and other trip details, a full screen mode for the 3D sat-nav is also available, freeing up the main 9.3-inch EASY LINK display for other functions, enhancing the driving experience and reducing the need to change functions unnecessarily.

MULTI-SENSE;

Renault’s MULTI-SENSE driving modes give the New Mégane a range of characteristics, adjusting engine mapping, steering weight, ambient lighting and the display theme to suit the driver’s mood behind the wheel.

Four modes are available: Eco, Comfort, Sport and MySense. Eco mode prioritises fuel consumption and reduced CO2 emissions, Comfort offers a more relaxed drive with more flexible steering, and Sport for increased driving involvement, agility and responsiveness. MySense is the default driving mode and enables the driver to configure a range of parameters including throttle response and steering for a personalised experience.

MySense’s on-screen design has been revamped with new graphics for a more immersive look and feel, with simpler menus and new ambient lighting colours to complement each mode. Along with these modes, both the dashboard and instrument displays can be configured based on these modes. In Eco mode, consumption figures are shown in the driver display, while power and torque are displayed in Sport mode.

New driver assistance systems;

Adaptive Cruise Control

New Mégane maintains a safe following distance from the vehicle in front. In traffic jams, the vehicle stops and restarts when the traffic lane starts moving again.

Traffic Jam Companion

Active from 0 to 160km/h, the system regulates speed and maintains safe following distances from the vehicles in front, while ensuring the car keeps in the centre of the lane. This driving assistant stops and restarts automatically within 3 seconds without any driver input

Lane Departure Warning

New Mégane alerts the driver and corrects the trajectory in the event of lane departure without prior use of the indicator.

Automatic Emergency Braking System

New Mégane watches over the driver and the surroundings. If there is sharp braking or a pedestrian crossing, the driver is alerted and can automatically perform emergency braking.

Traffic Sign Recognition

New Mégane informs the driver of speed limits thanks to a camera so they can always adapt their speed.

Blind Spot Warning system

With the Blind Spot Warning system, an indicator light located on each door mirror will warn the driver when a vehicle is in their blind spot.

Driver Drowsiness Detection system

Identifies when the driver is tired by monitoring steering wheel movements. If a break is required, drivers receive an audible and visual warning to encourage a break.

Mégane R.S. and R.S. Trophy;

A Renault Sport icon, the award-winning and record-breaking Mégane R.S. and R.S. Trophy have received a range of enhancements, both powered by a 1.8-litre turbocharged direct injection petrol engine – the most powerful production Renault engine ever with 300hp and 420Nm of torque. It’s paired with a seven-speed EDC automatic transmission.

Hallmark features of the Mégane R.S. remain, including innovative 4Control four-wheel steering that delivers maximum agility and high-speed stability, while the exhaust system has been revised, with a mechanical valve to adjust the sound for an even more involved driving experience.

For the Mégane R.S. Trophy, the enthralling driving experience has become even more focused. It stands out with its exclusive Cup chassis, paired with the same 1.8-litre 300hp engine and EDC transmission.

Inside, the Mégane R.S. Trophy benefits from the same suite of enhancements as the whole Mégane range, with Alcantara sport seats featuring red and grey stitching and detailing as standard. An upgrade to Recaro seats is an option exclusive to the Trophy version.

Trophy models also feature the new 9.3-inch EASY LINK infotainment display with configurable 10-inch TFT Driver Information Display, plus enhanced specification including front and rear parking sensors, full LED lighting, reversing camera, automatic lights and wipers and Visio safety system.

Warranty;

All new Renault cars are covered by a five-year warranty. It features an unlimited mileage limit in the first two years and up to 200,000 km in the remaining three. E-TECH Plug-in hybrid variants come with an eight-year battery warranty.

Manufacturing;

The current Mégane is built at Renault’s Palencia plant in Spain – a site that Renault has been building cars at since 1978. The Mégane is constructed alongside the popular Kadjar SUV, with 85-90% of the vehicles manufactured exported to more than 50 countries around the world. Palencia is an integral part of Renault’s international reach.

Both Kadjar and Mégane models are based on the Alliance CMF architecture. The CMF architecture allows a wide variety of cars of different sizes to be created using a common basket of out-of-view parts, bringing cost reductions which can be passed on to customers in the form of increased content at attractive prices.

The full Mégane range is built here – including Hatch, Sport Tourer and R.S. models. In 2019, More than 77,000 hatchbacks and 50,000 Sport Tourers were produced at the Palencia plant.

It’s not just the current Mégane to be produced in Palencia – it’s been the home of all Mégane models for the last 25 years, with production beginning in 1994 alongside the Laguna family car.

The current fourth generation Mégane hatchback and Sport Tourer entered production in 2015 and, five years later, the updated version including E-TECH Plug-in hybrid versions entered production.
